Therapies
At Body Positive Dorset, we offer our service users complementary therapies which consider all aspects of an individual, the mind, body and spirit. Whilst conventional medicine treats the part of the body which is not working correctly, complementary therapies use non-invasive and non-pharmaceutical techniques to deal with imbalance.
Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy is the systematic use of essential oils from plants to assist in the healing or prevention of disease. The soothing combination of beautiful aromas combined with massage works to regulate, balance, heal and maintain an individual's entire being by working with nature, rather than against it.
Reflexology
Reflexology is a method involving the practice of massaging, squeezing and pushing on parts of the feet, or sometimes the hands and ears, with the goal of encouraging a beneficial effect on other parts of the body.
Reiki
Having evolved in Japan, Reiki is the name given to a system of natural healing where the practitioner gently places their hands in a non-intrusive way in a sequence of positions over the body. It is said to assist in the healing at any level of being: physical, mental, emotional or spiritual.
Swedish Massage
Swedish massage is a classic treatment which represents the western standard for massage, using the five main techniques of stroking and gliding, kneading, rubbing, tapping/pounding and vibration. It is ideal for relaxation, easing muscle strain, improving circulation, stimulating the nervous system, reducing stress and keeping ligaments and tendons supple.
Please note, complementary therapies do incur a charge although they are subsidised by Body Positive Dorset.
