Counselling
Just diagnosed, or finding it hard to deal with the problems life brings. Why not take control and talk to one of our professional counsellors. This service is provided by volunteer counsellors and is free of charge. We have counsellors that work from different therapeutic orientations to suit individual needs. Appointments can be made with Reception. In emergency situations, we are able to organize a counselling session at short notice.
Advice
Body Positive Dorset has a range of support workers who offer information and guidance on benefits, housing and grants. From October 2005 we will have a support worker in the centre every afternoon so appointments are not always needed. We also have outreach workers for whom appointments are needed: Citizens Advice Bureau, plus both Bournemouth and Poole Housing and Benefits departments.
Entrance
Entrance: You will always find a warm welcome when you come to the Support Centre as the first point of contact is our receptionists who are there to welcome you.
Lounge
The Lounge is a comfortable, relaxing area. Facilities include:
- Non-Smoking
- Comfortable sofa's and relaxing chairs
- Stereo Hi-Fi facilities
- TV & Video / DVD Player
- Sony 'PlayStation' games console
- Information magazines and newspapers
The Kitchen
The Kitchen: Refreshment including tea, coffee, hot chocolate, spring water, cold drinks and biscuits are available free of charge. Just help yourself to the drink you want when you are in the centre.
The Garden
The Garden: Oasis in the centre of town. Our well maintained garden is used all year round, a quite place when needed or an area for BBQs and social functions.
Notice Board
The Support Centre notice Board is located in the area between the Lounge and the Diner and displays all up-to-date information on events, activities and services being offered by Body Positive Dorset.
The 'Diner' @ BP
Meals and refreshments are available at the Support Centre each day.
Refreshments including a selection of teas, herbal infusions, coffee, hot chocolate, spring water, cold drinks and biscuits are available free of charge, subject to availability.
During the winter months we offer a 'Winter Warmer' menu.
A selection of ready to cook snacks and / or meals are available for a nominal charge. As the menu changes on a regular basis, please enquire with Reception as to what is currently on offer, there will always be a variety of culinary choices. Body Positive Dorset apologises in advance if your choice is not available. In the interests of hygiene we ask that all meals and snacks are eaten in the 'Diner'.
On selected evenings Body Positive Dorset offer the highly popular 'Club Nights' combining a meal with fun and games in the comfort of the lounges. A nominal charge is made for these events, and further information can be obtained by contacting Reception.
Laundry Facility
Body Positive Dorset offers a fully equipped laundry, available to those using the Support Centre who have no access to suitable laundry facilities.
Facilities include:
- Washing machine
- Tumble dryer
- Clothes airer
- Iron and ironing board
Resources Suite
The Resources Suite offers a range of facilities including: Library with information on HIV and AIDS including treatment updates, magazines, health advice leaflets, benefits advice information etc. 'Back to Work' training facilities including information on courses, computers, television and video. Internet Access. 'Surf' the technology highway for information from around the world on HIV and AIDS or any other subject. Access to the Internet is available to Service-Users free of charge. Access may be limited to 30 minutes per session and reservations should be made in advance with Reception. Last access time is one hour before closure of the Support Centre.
